I have always enjoyed, “dabbling,” in different art forms, including seasonal scenes on glass, inspirational scenes and quotes on fabric and “theme painting” on wooden stools and children’s furniture. So when we moved to Mount Helix in 2000, along with the remodeling of our home, we built a small art studio at the end of the garage.
The studio quickly became a, “happy place” for me and my small Grandchildren. A visit to Grandma’s always included time in the, “Toodio.” (I still have folders of the Grandchildren’s precious art).
Three years ago, we built a larger studio. I was elated. Along with more work and storage space, the addition presented an opportunity for me to share the space with other Artist Friends as well as my Grandchildren for, “Art Days.”
One day, a Friend dropped by the studio and handed me a jean jacket, saying, “I thought you might like to play with this.” As I thought about what she said, I realized how much I have always been drawn to textures, trims and fabrics. And, how I always headed to the section with old buttons, laces, trims and jewelry in the antique stores. The idea of “revitalizing/repurposing” gently worn (or new) jackets into, “funky fun” began to take shape!
PS. The art “moniker”, (robinscalling) was given to me by Dear Friends over dinner during a visit to Taos, New Mexico in 2001.
